The Colombian Government is very pleased to host the first International Summit on Child Protection in Travel and Tourism, this coming 6th and 7th of June 2018 in Bogotá, Colombia, in a joint effort with UNICEF, UNODC, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the Global High-Level Task Force on Child Protection in Travel and Tourism ECPAT International, ECPAT Colombia – Fundación Renacer, and in cooperation with the Bogotá Tourism Office (IDT).

As the travel and tourism industry has become one of the largest and fastest growing industries worldwide, there is an increasing need to protect children. Over the past few years, governments, the private sector, law enforcement agencies, international entities and civil society organisations around the world have already begun to undertake actions to address this global challenge.

The event will bring together global leaders representing governments, international and regional multilateral organisations, the private sector, law enforcement agencies, child rights experts and non-governmental organisations to raise international attention to protect children in the context of travel and tourism, while contributing to 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals, providing an opportunity to exchange good practices and experiences.

It will explore accelerated actions for implementation of the recommendations of the Global Study on Sexual Exploitation of Children in Travel and Tourism (SECTT), which are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals and provide a roadmap to address this worldwide challenge.

The specific objectives are to:

  • Prioritise actions to increase commitments to child protection in travel and tourism.
  • Promote integrated multisectoral actions and align the agendas of the various segments of travel and tourism sector and other stakeholders to protect children from exploitation in travel and tourism.
  • Share good practices to increase the involvement of a broadened range of stakeholders and build strategic and synergistic alliances as part of the process of promoting child protection in travel and tourism.
